Garbage, Recycling, & Bulk 

*PLEASE BE ADVISED: Sanitation pickup can start as early as 4 a.m., thus your garbage and recycling needs to be put out the night before the scheduled pick up day*

Garbage Schedule

Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays

  •  All garbage should be bagged and placed in cans
  •  All containers shall not exceed 40 gallons, shall not be heavier than 50lbs when filled, shall have a lid or cover and two sturdy handles
  •  Garbage cans should have appropriate drainage holes in the bottom of the can
  •  In the event of inclement weather or holiday, garbage will be collected on the next scheduled garbage collection date

The following items will NOT  be collected by the Borough and should be taken to the Monmouth County Household Hazardous Waste located at 3211 Shafto Road, Tinton Falls, NJ 07753. Phone: 732-683-8686 ext. 5210

    • Paint
    • Used Motor Oil
    • Antifreeze
    • Cleaners/Solvents
    • Garden Chemicals
    • Tires

Recycling Schedule

Tuesdays & Thursdays

  • Recycling should NOT be in plastic bags but loose in the can
  • All containers shall not exceed 40 gallons, shall not be heavier than 50lbs when filled, shall have a lid or cover and two sturdy handles
  • All CLEAN cardboard should be flattened with all packing; air packs, styrofoam, & plastic removed
  •  In the event of inclement weather or holiday, recycling will be collected on the next scheduled recycling collection date

Recyclable Items: plastic bottles (codes #1 and #2 only), glass jars, glass bottles, aluminum/steel/tin cans, carboard, newspaper, paper books (remove hard cover), junk mail

NON-Recyclable Items: Pizza boxes, plates, glasses, pots, pans, alkaline/LED batteries, window glass, auto glass, buckets, pails, children’s toys, Pyrex, mirrors, plastic bags

Bulk Pick Up

  • Starts on the 15th of every month.
  • If the 15th lands on a Saturday or Sunday pick up will start the following Monday
  • Please call Borough Hall at 732-531-1454 no later than one (1) business day prior to the bulk pick up day by 4 p.m. to get your address on the bulk list. If your address is not on the list your bulk items will not be picked up.
  • Your bulk must be placed near where you normally put your garbage no later than the day before the pick-up day.  Please do NOT put your bulk items on the street or block your garbage cans.
  • Do not place any items that you do not want picked up near your bulk items.
  • Items NOT considered for bulk: construction debris, yard waste, tires, fluorescent light bulbs, propane tanks, wooden/metal fencing, pallets, carpeting, furnace, hot water heaters.

Once your items have been picked up on, or shortly after bulk day they will not return if you put more bulk out. If you have more items that did not make it out for pick up, please call to be put on the following months pick up list

Leaves and Brush

The Borough of Deal does NOT provide leaf and brush pick up services. Please have your landscaper remove the debris from your property or click the link below to the Monmouth County Recycling Guide for a list of county and private services/facilities.

The owner or occupant of any property, or any employee or contractor of such owner or occupant engaged to provide lawn care or landscaping services, shall not sweep, rake, blow or otherwise place yard waste, in the street. If yard waste is placed in the street, the party responsible for placement of yard waste must remove the yard waste from the street or said party shall be deemed in violation of the borough’s ordinance.
